Mathematics, on the grandest scale, is the language of the universe. It is what we use to measure, investigate, and strive to understand all the interactions within, and surrounding us. On a more societal level, a basic understanding of mathematics is necessary for school advancement, college entry, and often, the more prestigious and well paying jobs, now and for the foreseeable future. No matter how you measure it, the field of mathematics is important to understand. Unfortunately, it is also the single most likely field of study to bring high school students to tears at the kitchen table, and college students into their professor’s office after hours. As with anything in life, math comes easily to some, and not so much to others. This is where I come in.
My name is Christopher Billman and my passion is mathematics, and mathematics applied to the real world, the study of physics. I graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with my major in mathematics, an emphasis on education and I hold my minor in physics. I have run my own teaching business full time, professionally, since Feb 2019.
My style of teaching is the old Saxon Math method, but with a more modern application. With every mathematically based question posed, there are always multiple approaches which can be used to get a fingertip hold of understanding. A good tutor uses the student’s real life, real world, and natural skills and abilities to direct and pave a path of comprehension. I will attempt to use as many real world, applicable, methods and examples as possible in an effort to see that little light go on in the student’s eyes as understanding dawns.
My goal is to take your student from tears around the kitchen table, from not turning in homework, from not seeking help due to embarrassment and frustrations, to a place of understanding where they have tools, and methods for solving not only math, but whatever questions or problems cross their path. I seek to bring humor and even enjoyment where possible into the process, and in the end take the most difficult class they dread and fear, into something much more manageable.
